« It's really interesting to me how players perceive the relative complexity/value of features and content added in game updates. For example, in our last update, STEADFAST RANGER, we added the Revolver, and completely overhauled the game's shooting mechanics. Additionally we added some new healing items (one found and one craftable) and some improvised clothing items to help with the early or late game problem of not having enough head or hand-coverings and therefore being susceptible to Frostbite in those areas (a high-cost affliction).
We didn't add a new region or any big pieces of "content", at least as far as content is perceived by many players. But the Revolver and aiming system overhauls were really significant new additions. The aiming system changes alone are a pretty major change to how the game works.
We also overhauled the Sprains system which was also a pretty major system change that required a lot of work under-the-hood to make it work. And the changes to the system actually impacted how players perceived the risk of moving through the world a change that affects players either a lot or a little, depending entirely on their play style.
To me, every one of these changes is a significant change to the way the game's survival systems work. They add depth to some systems and open up new decisions for players, and also polish some rough edges off of systems that needed some love.
Of those features/changes, the improvised Wraps (head and hand) were certainly the easiest to implement. The Energy Drink probably next as it does interface with the Condition/Afflictions system(s). All the way up to Sprains and the Aiming Overhaul, which was probably the most complex change we made in STEADFAST RANGER. This is as compared to, say, adding a new region, which is a huge effort in terms of content production, but offers very little new gameplay opportunity, doesn't add depth or polish to ubiquitous systems.
Yet despite all that, somehow updates that don't include regions are seen as being "lesser" somehow, and what you hear is "you only added 5 things in your last update, how pitiful, why isn't the update bigger?". »

« As DoorDash grew to become the biggest on-demand food delivery app in the country, it began doing something unconventional with customers’ tips: It used them mostly to subsidize its payments to delivery workers. »

« Here's something that's awesome! Thanks to the new features in the Linux Steam client that came with Steam Play, you can add in other compatibility tools to run games through and Boxtron is one such tool. »
